About our cause

Keelby Village Hall is a large, well-used, Grade II listed historic building that is genuinely at the heart of our community.  Our Historic England Listing Number is 1063368 and our address is Village Hall, King Street, Keelby, Grimsby, Lincolnshire.  DN41 8EE.

The diverse and eclectic range of activities, events and functions available means there is something for everyone to participate in and enjoy.  For example, the Hall is home to Keelby Luncheon Club (inaugurated in 1992), the much longer established Keelby Senior Citizens' Christmas Party and the perennially popular Keelby Pantomime.

Please support us throughout this, our forty-fourth year.  The property (including the Rifle Range) was purchased by the community, for the community and the Village Hall Committee created to maintain, manage and run it in 1982; a transaction made possible through community fundraising, with the balance of the cost being met by generous grant awards.  We are a Registered Charity with the Charity Commission Registration Number 512808.  Our lottery provides us with an important source of additional, regular and reliable unrestricted income that is also environmentally friendly because it is operated entirely digitally!  The Committee was thrilled to receive a generous donation of £25.00 of prize money from one of our recent lottery winners; thank you so much!

We were absolutely delighted when one of our supporters matched all six numbers and won the jackpot in the draw on Saturday, 23rd March 2024! The Committee, who work really hard to promote the lottery, warmly congratulate the lucky winner and also sincerely thank each and every one of our ticket holders for their ongoing and greatly valued support for the Hall and the wider Keelby community.

The Hall's resplendent decorations really set the scene for the Keelby Senior Citizens' Christmas Party on Saturday, 6th December, which was without doubt the most enjoyable to date!  From superb food to spontaneous dancing and from accomplished entertainment to boundless community spirit, this flagship event exemplified what sets our village apart.  Massive thanks go to all esteemed guests, to the (seemingly) tireless organisers, to the volunteers that made it all possible and to our entertainer, Rob Bishop, who is already booked for this year!

Please reserve the following dates in your diary, beginning with the premiere of the Keelby Pantomime 'Treasure Island' by Rob Till on Friday, 30th January at 7.30 pm!  The season (which includes matinees as well as evening performances) runs until Saturday, 7th February and the Box Office, once again generously facilitated by Go Local Extra in St Martin's Place, is open now with early booking advised.  Then, later in February, we keenly anticipate hosting a Fashion Show on Saturday, 21st and a Charity Bingo Night on Saturday, 28th.  We are also delighted to advise that the Hall will participate in Village Halls Week 2026, promoted by ACRE (Action with Communities in Rural England) and running from Monday, 16th to Sunday, 22nd March!  Looking even further ahead, we'll be very much involved in the Keelby Gala on the Village Green on Saturday, 4th July, organised by The Health Tree Foundation in partnership with Keelby Parish Council!

We need your help so we can continue to improve our award-winning Hall and all it has to offer both now and for the future.  Our ground floor offers full accessibility to guests with disabilities and features state of the art toilets that also include baby changing provision.  The Dance Room and Snooker Room on the first floor are reached by a stairway.   The Hall is also proud to host one of Keelby's two community defibrillators (AEDs).  It is in the yellow cabinet to the left of the front door as you approach the building.  (The other is at the Sports Pavilion alongside Stallingborough Road).  Keelby Village Hall is a Wi-Fi hotspot and indeed, in 2009, had the distinction of being the first community building in West Lindsey to be enabled as such by the District Council, who also fully funded the monthly payments, though that arrangement was cancelled by the Committee in 2024 in favour of a contract with a commercial provider offering an up to date FTTP (Fibre to the Premise) connection that is presently provided without charge.  NB.  Our snooker table was professionally rebaized and had new cushions fitted in November 2019, while the completely new (and extended) ground floor toilet facilities were installed during the coronavirus closure period in the summer of 2021.  The latter project was made possible by a generous award of funding from the FCC Communities Foundation enabled by a 'match funding' contribution from West Lindsey District Council.   Among the other amenities available are a fully equipped modern kitchen, a piano, a stage with up-to-date lighting and sound systems and an immaculately maintained garden.  Keelby Village Hall is the pre-eminent community facility in our area and a venue of choice for all manner of activities, events and functions.

The Hall has an especially rich history.  Construction commenced 129 years ago in 1897 as the Church Mission and the foundation stone laid by the Right Honourable Victoria, Countess of Yarborough (the dowager Countess) in November of that year can still be seen.  A subsequent substantial bequest in the Estate of Miss Elizabeth Dawson enabled the extension of the building in 1910 when it became the Church Institute and took the form we now know as Keelby Village Hall.

We are presently fundraising to enable the sustainable refurbishment and reinstallation of the Hall's iconic clock as an appropriate and befitting way to mark the remarkable 70 year reign of HM Queen Elizabeth II.  The clock, which is contemporaneous with the second phase of construction, has not been operational for some years now.  Please support us in delivering this important project on behalf of the Keelby community.

Our current competitive and modest charge rates are (per hour): Dance Room...£10.00, Main Hall...£15.00, Meeting Rooms (choice of two)...£10.00 and Snooker Room...£10.00 and also (per event): Children's Parties (up to age 13)...£50.00 and Evening Parties...£100.00.  We'll be delighted to provide quotations for christening celebrations, wedding receptions and all other events upon request.  For bookings (or enquiries) please contact Mr Fred White, our Booking Secretary and Keyholder, on 07305 184389. Please see our newsletters, notice boards or this page for details of the Hall's exciting programme of forthcoming events.

Thank you for your valued support and good luck!

Yours sincerely,

Keelby Village Hall Committee
